The research, phone calls, and constant begging for cheer and dance classes from your little one has finally landed dance class on the calendar. It’s all your child has been talking and thinking about. At Hillsborough Cheer and Dance, we want both you and your child to feel prepared for their very first dance or cheer class, so we’ve compiled a list of things to do before their first class.

Here are 4 things to do before the first cheer/dance class:

  1. Dress for success: Ensure your little one is prepared with the proper dance apparel. Hillsborough Cheer and Dance has a shopping guide to help figure out what apparel, shoes, and accessories are needed according to the class your child will be taking.
  2. Visit the studio: To help calm nerves, come by and visit the studio a week or two before your first class. Watch a class, and let your child become familiar with the studio, as well as the type of dance style and routines.
  3. Speak with your class instructor: We love to hear about our future students to better teach them in class. Feel free to reach out to your child’s new instructor and find out if there is anything specific he or she can do to better prepare for their first class.
  4. Arrive early: We recommend coming at least 5-10 minutes early to the first class to fill out any remaining paperwork and allow children to get settled and get to know their peers and instructor before beginning.

It is completely normal for your child to feel a bit nervous or anxious about their first class. Not to worry though, our instructors are skilled at putting children at ease and ensuring a welcoming environment on the first day. We understand every child is different, and It might take them a few weeks to get used to this new routine.

If you’ve booked a class, we can’t wait to see you soon in our studio. Want to know more about our dance and cheer classes? Contact us today!
