Calling all cheerleaders and dancers! Many are upset that they can’t get into the studio or gym right now. It can be hard to have something one is so passionate about just ripped away. No worries though! There are still plenty of activities that can be done at home to help reach cheer and dance goals.
Here are four cheer and dance tips that can be done at home:
- Stretch every day: This is a key factor in increasing flexibility and building muscle. The less one stretches, the harder it will be to regain flexibility when classes start back up. Create a 20-minute stretch routine or look up one on YouTube!
- Do jumps – Students should take 15 minutes out of the day to practice getting their jumps. It doesn’t take much time, but constantly doing it every day will easily build muscle. They should video themselves so by the end of the stay-at-home order, they can watch how much they’ve improved!
- Watch IG live videos – There are numerous dance accounts that are posting combos on Instagram that can be learned at home. They teach them step-by-step, just as if one were in the studio with them. Learning combos increases memory and helps get in-tune with the body’s movements.
- Go outside and tumble – Tumbling is a huge muscle-builder. The more students practice, the more confident they become. Please don’t attempt anything new without a proper spot! Instead, work on technique for tumbles you have already accomplished.
Also, don’t forget to FaceTime your best dance friends! Be motivation for each other to still work towards your goals. Start stretching over the phone with them every day. Watch them do their jumps and give them feedback like an instructor would do! We can’t wait to see all of our students beautiful faces when we come back to classes!
