DANCE CLASSES

Our non-competition dance classes are for children ages 2-18. We offer ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, contemporary, and musical theater! All of our dance classes are taught by top-quality instructors.

When dancers are ready to progress to our competitive dance program, HCDG offers pre-professional training, individualized attention for progression, and a high-level professional training staff. HCDG also offers travel performance trips each summer – for example, HCDG dancers are performing in NYC at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in 2024, and in Disney World in Summer 2025! Visit our Competitive Dance Teams page for more information.

WE HAVE OPTIONS FOR EVERY ATHLETE

MUSICAL THEATER

HCDG offers a Musical Theater only competitive team for those interested in Musical Theater.  These teams require less commitment than full dance team, and allow students the full performance experience.  Please see the HCDG Dance Team Handbook for more information.

TAP

*Tap 1 – Starts at 7 years.  Students will learn the basics of tap dance, learning fundamental steps, rhythms, and terminology.

*Tap 2 – Starts at 12 years, or earlier by invitation.  Students will continue to build on their foundational knowledge of tap rhythms as they learn more intricate footwork and patterns.

BALLET

HCDG offers four levels of ballet instruction.

*Ballet 1 – Begins at age 5.5 years.  Ballet 1 serves as an introduction to the foundational techniques and principles of classical ballet, including posture, alignment, terminology, and basic movements.

*Ballet 2 – Begins at age 8, or earlier by invitation.  Ballet 2 builds upon the foundational techniques learned in Ballet 1, introducing more complex movements, combinations, and variations.  Students in Ballet 2 continue to refine their technique, strength, and artistry, preparing them for more advanced levels of ballet training.

*Ballet 3 – Begins at 12, or earlier by invitation.  Ballet 3 is an intermediate level class that further develops and refines techniques.  Students focus on increasing flexibility, strength, and coordination skills while learning more intricate combinations and variations.

*Ballet 4 – By invitation only.  Ballet 4 is an advanced level class that continues to refine and expand upon the techniques learned in earlier levels.  Students focus on mastering complex movements, developing artistry, and preparing for more demanding ballet repertoire and performances.  This level emphasizes precision, musicality, and expression in movement.

TURNS/LEAPS

HCDG offers classes solely focused on Turns & Leaps technique.

*Turns/Leaps 1 – Starts at age 5.5 years.  Students will learn the fundamentals of turnings and jumping techniques in various dance styles including jazz and lyrical.  They focus on building strength, coordination, and balance required for executing basic turns and leaps.  Emphasis is placed on proper technique, body alignment and musicality.

*Turns/Leaps 2 – Starts at age 8.  Students will continue to work on proper technique to execute more complex leaps and turns.

*Turns/Leaps 3 + 4 – By invite only.

DANCE COMBO CLASSES

HCDG Dance Combo classes cover tap, ballet, and jazz movement in age group settings.

*Ages 3 to 4 years old. Class meets for 30 minutes in a self-contained room where the children can have fun, learn, and enjoy learning basic dance movements. Activities include large motor skills, coordination, balance, flexibility, and strength. Learning how to follow directions and stand in line with other children are an active part of the complete class activity.

*Ages 5-6 years old. *Ages 7-9, and 10+ classes. These classes are 45 minutes with a consistent evaluation associated with the monthly lesson plan. These classes develop strength skills, coordination activities, flexibility, and self-confidence, along with continuing the student’s knowledge of tap, ballet, and jazz skills.
